PUBLISHER'S VIEWPOINT
April 2005
Honoring the Worthy and
Throwing a Party
Now we’re
getting excited. Yesterday I received an e-mail from John
Radchenko, chairman of the North American Division of FCSI, with
the name of the association’s consultant nominee for our new
Industry Service Award. I can’t tell you who it is, because we
haven’t told the person yet. We also expect to hear from FEDA
and MAFSI and CFESA in the next week or so with their nominees.
And next week,
after we all get back from the FEDA meeting in Indian Wells,
Calif., we’ll sit down with the ballots you have sent us—thank
you very much—nominating national and regional dealers for the
first Customer Choice Dealer Awards. That will be interesting
indeed. No one’s ever done it this way.
The whole point
of these awards, of course, is to honor worthy folks who may not
get honored other ways. But it also gives us another chance to
throw a party and eat and drink with our friends at the Sofitel
Hotel in Chicago, Friday, May 20.

You notice we
call it a party. That’s what it will be. Oh, we’ll get people up
on a stage and hand them awards, but it will be a free-flowing,
buffet and cocktail party with lots of time to network with our
usual collection of operators, dealers, consultants, service
agents and, yes, please, manufacturers. The idea is to have fun
while honoring people who deserve it.
You are all
invited. For details, give us a call at 800/986-9616 and we’ll
get you on the list.
And
speaking of worthiness, the folks who run the annual show for
the National Restaurant Association—being held May 21-24 this
year—have created a new “Kitchen Innovations” program to honor
significant new equipment and supplies. An expert panel of
judges helped NRA identify 17 innovative products from 16
different companies, nearly all of which have been featured
extensively in the pages of FER over the past couple years. In a
special section on the show floor you’ll see fast ovens,
innovative refrigeration systems, blending-dispensing systems,
temp-monitoring and recording devices, warewashers, mixers,
pasta cookers, modular cooking systems and ventilation, among
other advances.
We heartily
congratulate the recipients and commend NRA for initiating the
program. It significantly focuses attention on equipment and
supplies at the NRA Show and promotes technology innovation, one
of our favorite things.
So no excuses.
Join us during NRA when we throw our party and hand out awards.
Call us for ticket information—and note we need to charge a
nominal entry fee to cover costs. And of course make sure you
sign up for the NRA Show. We look forward to seeing you in May
in Chicago.
Cheers,
