Manitowoc To Buy Enodis
In a sweeping move that will bring together two giants in cold and hot foodservice equipment, the Manitowoc Co. has agreed to purchase Enodis plc for a sum of $2.1 billion, including the assumption of Enodis debt of approximately $207 million.
The transaction, unanimously approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to close in the fourth quarter and is subject to court approval in the United Kingdom. Enodis is listed in London and operationally headquartered in Tampa, Fla. Manitowoc is based in Manitowoc, Wis.
Enodis employs 6,800 in 30 factories in nine countries. Its Global Foodservice Equipment businesses provide primary cooking, storage, preparation, holding, warewashing, ice machine, refrigeration and beverage equipment. Meanwhile, its Food Retail Equipment unit provides refrigeration, refrigerated display cases and walk-in cold rooms to supermarkets and c-stores in North America.
Manitowoc is one of the world's largest providers of lifting equipment for the global construction industry. Through its foodservice group, the company offers a broad line of cold equipment including ice cube machines, ice/beverage dispensers and commercial refrigeration equipment.
In addition, Manitowoc provides shipbuilding and ship repair for government, military and commercial customers in the U.S. maritime industry.

NSF Honors Food Safety Leaders
High fives and head-butts all around: NSF Int'l. in March honored eight individuals for their leadership in keeping the food supply safe from farm to fork. Winners of NSF's fifth annual Food Safety Leadership Awards were:
- Paul A. Lachance, Ph.D., F.A.C.N., C.N.S., the Founding and Emeritus Director of the Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods Institute of the Center for Advanced Food Technology, for Lifetime Achievement in Education and Technology.
- Daniel L. Engeljohn, Ph.D., deputy assistant administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for Lifetime Achievement in Public Service.
- Elizabeth A. Bugden, MS, food scientist for Kids First, for Leadership in Education and Training.
- Jeanne Gleason, Ph.D., director of media productions at New Mexico State University, for Leadership in Education and Training.
- Christine Moe, Ph.D., director of the Center for Global Safe Water at Emory University, for Outstanding Achievements in Research Advancement.
- Dennis Romer, v.p. of foodservice and hospitality, Sterilox Food Safety Systems, for Equipment Design.
- Norm Faiola, Ph.D., associate dean of the College of Human Ecology and professor, department of nutrition and hospitality management, Syracuse University, for Achievements in Product Development.

Washington, Cain To Highlight Michael E. Hurst Student Forum During NRA Show
Mark your calendars for May 17, when Regynald Washington, FMP, and Herman Cain, FMP, will join the 2008 Salute to Excellence Honorees as special presenters at the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's Michael E. Hurst Student Forum at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.
Washington, v.p., segment food and beverage, product development and new concepts, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide, will serve as Student Forum moderator and master of ceremonies. Cain, CEO, T.H.E. Inc. and '08 NRAEF College of Diplomates inductee, will serve as the Ambassador and Diplomate Luncheon keynote speaker.
The event is held as part of the NRAEF's 21st Annual Salute to Excellence at the 2008 National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show® in Chicago.
The Michael E. Hurst Student Forum gathers approximately 200 top restaurant and foodservice management students and their teachers from around the country with industry educators and leaders for a day of learning and celebration, highlighting the industry's position as a cornerstone of the nation's economy and neighborhood involvement. The Student Forum is one of several initiatives held in conjunction with the NRA Show that focuses on supporting and growing the workforce of tomorrow.
