FER Names Industry Service Award Winners
With much hoopla and the customary ceremonial horns, the staff of sister publication Foodservice Equipment Reports has announced the winners of its fourth annual Industry Service Awards.
Launched in 2005, the awards are intended to recognize equipment and supplies industry individuals who have demonstrated "a sustained contribution, year after year, not only to their companies and associations, but to the greater foodservice industry at large." Each year editors pool their own firsthand knowledge with input from the various industry associations and put together their short lists.
This year's five winners, plus one winner of a special award:
- Operator: Martin Cowley, Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, Calif.
- Dealer: Bruce Gulbas, National Restaurant Supply Co., El Paso, Texas.
- Consultant: Karen Malody, CulinaryOptions, Seattle.
- Service Agent: Tina Reese, Commercial Parts & Service, Tampa, Fla.
- Manufacturer's Rep: Ray Ward, Link2Hospitality Solutions, Rochester, N.Y.
Special Award: And as a special acknowledgement for more than 20 years of research, testing and much-needed drum-beating in the field of utility-efficient kitchen equipment, FER is honoring Don Fisher, principal of Fisher-Nickel Inc., which operates Pacific Gas & Electric's Food Service Technology Center in San Ramon, Calif.
McD's Pushes For 450 New Units In China By 2010
McDonald's Corp. has announced it plans to open 450 new stores in mainland China by the end of 2010.
The company currently owns 950 of 953 stores in China.
Speaking to reporters at a sponsorship event at the Beijing Olympics, Tim Fenton, McD's president of Asia, Pacific, Middle East and Africa, reportedly said the company also plans more franchising within two to four years as the company continues to tweak menus and pricing to develop the best franchising model.
The company reports same-store sales in China are up 9.1% in the first half of the year.
FER Picks Up Two Editorial Awards
The editors at sister publication Foodservice Equipment Reports are tooting their horns these days (well, they're tooting ours too, as we, uh, share horns) to celebrate not one but two recent editorial prizes.
