Sonic Adds Beer And Wine To Florida Unit’s Menu

Sonic’s newest unit will be the first of the chain’s 3,500 restaurants to offer beer and wine on its menu, along with burgers, hot dogs and cherry limeades. The Homestead, Fla., City Council gave the chain approval to serve alcohol at the Sonic Beach Experience, a variation on the drive-in chain’s standard unit and the first Sonic in the area. Alcohol will only be served on the restaurant’s patio by trained servers, not at the drive-in.

Officials at Sonic say there are no plans to offer alcohol at any other locations. The Oklahoma City company expects to open 40 new franchised drive-in units in fiscal 2011.
