2012 NRA Show Moves Up Two Weeks, Now May 5-8

Check your plane tickets and update your hotel reservations: The National Restaurant Association has moved the date of next May’s show in Chicago.

The 2012 NRA Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show was originally scheduled for May 19-22 but will now be held May 5-8 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The concurrent International Wine, Spirits & Beer Event will move to May 6-7.

The association moved up the show dates to avoid overlap with the global G8 and NATO summits set for May 15-22, 2012, in Chicago. “The NRA’s primary goal is provide our exhibitors and attendees an environment that is conducive to business,” said NRA Pres. and CEO Dawn Sweeney.

She said that discussions with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority made it clear that security and logistics requirements for the G8 and NATO summits will significantly restrict movement within the city.

The NRA Show attracts more than 58,000 foodservice professionals each year, injects an average of $100 million dollars into Chicago’s economy and supports more than 60,000 jobs in the city in connection with the show. A Chicago mainstay for 51 years, the NRA Show is contracted to remain at McCormick Place through `16. Negotiations are ongoing with the exhibit hall’s labor unions to cut down on exhibitor expenses.
