Ten Products Win Best In Show At IHMRS & BDNY

Ten exhibitors received Editors’ Choice Awards at the Nov. 13 opening ceremonies of the 96th annual International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show and 2nd annual Boutique Design New York. The awards recognize best new products within the categories of design, equipment & supplies, guest amenities, tabletop, and technology, as well as an eco-friendly equivalent to each of these categories.

From the 10 winners, the Kenneth F. Hine "Best of Show" Award also was selected. It went to Tabletop category winner Corkcicle, Orlando, Fla., for the Corkcicle Wine Chiller. The product eliminates the need for ice buckets by keeping white wine cold and bringing room temperature red wine down to cellar temperature.

Other E&S specific winners were in the Green categories. They include:

  • Green Design: Emeco, Hanover, Pa., for 111 Navy Chair, created from at least 111 recycled PET plastic Coke bottles. It was developed in partnership with Coca-Cola.
  • Green Equipment & Supplies: CookTek Induction Systems, A Middleby Co., Chicago, for OmeletBuster. The double-hob induction cooktop has enough power in each hob to cook a three-egg omelet in 90 seconds.
  • Green Tabletop: Bugambilia Int’l., Irvine, Calif., for Bamboo Leaf Plate, a leaf-shaped serving platter made from all-natural bamboo fiber and free of any plastic, formaldehyde or melamine.
  • Green Technology: Verve Living Systems, Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Verve Key Card Switch, which saves energy through occupancy-based control of lighting, HVAC and miscellaneous electric loads.

A complete list of the 10 winners, selected from among 150 submissions, is at the show’s website.
