SoCal Gas Offers Non-Profits Energy Savings Workshop Next Week

Non-profit organizations that have a kitchen can learn ways to save money next week. On Thursday, April 5, Southern California Gas Co. will hold a one-day workshop on ways to cut spending on kitchen equipment and energy bills—whether through replacing worn-out equipment or reducing energy usage.

It will include tips on which energy-efficient, rebate-qualified equipment operators can purchase, how to reduce utility bills, and information about the public utilities’ CARE program, which provides a 20% monthly discount to eligible low-income residential customers and non-profit group living facilities.

There are two keynote speakers, including Bruno Serato, chef/owner of the Anaheim White House Restaurant and a 2011 CNN Hero. He has served more than 380,000 dinners to the local motel children of Orange County, averaging 300 meals a night for the children of the community.

Also speaking is Molly Moen, COO of the Downtown Women’s Center, Los Angeles, which provides more than 85,000 meals, housing and a wide array of health, education and other supportive services to more than 4,000 homeless and very-low-income women.

The event will be held at SoCal’s Food Service Equipmentt Center in Downey, Calif. It includes breakfast and lunch. Attendees must register by this Friday, March 30.
