GFS Acquires Toronto-Based Dealer United Restaurant Supplies

Gordon Food Service continues to grow, through customer-base expansion, territory reach and company acquisitions. On March 23, the privately held Grand Rapids, Mich.-based, broadline distribution company completed its purchase of United Restaurant Supplies, a family-run smallwares and equipment dealer based in Toronto since 1975.  The acquisition will give GFS a foundation to grow its smallwares business across Canada.

According to details provided to FER Dealer Report by Terry Kjellsen, national brand manager for GFS-Canada, United will continue to operate independently and focus on growing its smallwares business under the leadership of Trevor Calvert, its owner and president since ’91.

The acquisition also supports GFS-Canada’s partnership with Trimen, an affiliated fabricator/manufacturer in Toronto. United’s contract equipment business and several of its key employees will transition over to Trimen, strengthening the Toronto firm’s project management capabilities for street and multiunit customers.
