Technomic Sticks With Upwardly Revised Forecast

Given the economic uncertainties in Europe and Asia, and their possible impact on domestic foodservice (see related article this issue), FER Fortnightly asked Technomic V.P. Joe Pawlak if the research firm announced any revision of its current foodservice operator forecasts for this year and 2013 at its Trends & Directions Conference, held June 20.

No, he said, the firm will stand by the revision it released in May. In that revision, the firm boosted its forecast for total industry operator sales growth by more than a percentage point to 3.9% nominal and 1.5% real growth in ’12 and unveiled a preliminary ’13 forecast of 4.3% nominal and 1.8% real growth. (See May 16, 2012 FER Fortnightly article.)

“It’s still too early to tell if these are just a few speedbumps, or a consistent pattern is emerging,” Pawlak said.
