FER Names Winners Of First Management Excellence Awards

Foodservice Equipment Reports, with the assistance of the magazine’s Awards Selection Advisory Boards, has chosen six organizations to receive the magazine’s first Management Excellence Awards.

The awards recognize companies and firms that clearly demonstrate excellence in the management of unit and facilities development, design, equipment and supplies purchasing, and maintenance functions in commercial and noncommercial foodservice operations; in the delivery and performance of equipment and supplies functions and services by E&S dealers and distributors; and in the delivery of services by foodservice consulting firms.

The winners will be honored at the magazine’s 2013 Industry Awards Dinner Feb.8, 2013 at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with The NAFEM Show.

The 2012-13 winners are:

  • Chain & Commercial Operator (more than 250 units)—Doctor’s Associates/Subway, Milford, Conn., and its purchasing co-op, the Independent Purchasing Cooperative, Miami.
  • Chain & Commercial Operator (fewer than 250 units)—Cheddar’s Casual Cafe Inc., Irving, Texas.
  • Noncommercial Operator—The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Food and Nutrition Services, Columbus, Ohio.
  • Dealer (more than $40 million in sales)—Bargreen Ellingson, Tacoma, Wash.
  • Dealer (less than $40 million in sales)—Mobile Fixture, Mobile, Ala.
  • Consulting Firm—Webb Design, Tustin, Calif.

The magazine solicited nominees from the broad E&S manufacturer audience. The Awards Selection Advisory Boards, made up primarily of manufacturers, then used detailed criteria in determining the winners. Specific criteria were developed for each segment, but all winning organizations exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Honesty, transparency and integrity in dealing with employees, suppliers and customers.
  • Deeply knowledgeable management and personnel.
  • Consistency and excellence in execution.
  • Consistent revenue and profit growth (where known).
  • Creativity and innovation.
  • A significant contribution to the industry.

“We are very honored to recognize these exemplary organizations,” said FER Publisher Robin Ashton, in making the announcement. “This is a complex and difficult business. We hope these new awards will help define what constitutes well-run E&S functions and services and will inspire other companies and firms to strive for excellence throughout their organizations.” Ashton also thanked the Advisory Boards for their help.

FER previously announced the winners of the magazine’s Young Lions Awards (click here) and will soon name recipients of its Industry Service Awards.
