Arby’s Sells 42 Northwest Stores

Atlanta-based Arby’s Restaurant Group has sold 42 company-owned locations and development rights in Seattle and Portland, Ore. The buyer, operator Tony Lutfi, will remodel at least 17 restaurants and has committed to building five new Arby’s locations over the next several years.

The deal expands Lutfi’s franchise holdings to 120 restaurants; he also owns and operates 78 Church’s Chicken, Jack in the Box, Little Caesars and Sizzler stores.

The newly announced deal is Arby’s second refranchising agreement since it was acquired in July 2011 by Roark Capital Group. Last summer, Arby’s announced the sale of 51 company-owned locations and extensive development rights for Dallas/Fort Worth to Guillermo Perales, the nation’s largest Latino franchisee.

Arby’s continues a remodeling program of its more 3,400 restaurants.
