Water Filtration Gallery

Welcome to this product gallery highlighting the latest water filtration products. In January 2009 we put out a call to the major suppliers in this category and invited them to submit their newest products for your perusal. Eight companies took up our offer and submitted materials.

In this group you’ll find independent systems for filtration and reverse osmosis applications. We have not included systems that are built into specific pieces of equipment—integrated filtration units for ice makers, for example—but we have included brief specs and supplier statements to help you sort out what types of systems might be best for your operations.

So use this resource as a starting point for new water-related systems and then check in with the professionals for advice on your specific water needs.

CIRQUA
System: AB Formulator remineralizing unit
Overview: Designed to add minerals to water that has been treated with reverse osmosis, or for areas where minerals are low, the AB Formulator allows you to dial in and maintain the level of total dissolved solids you need. The unit automatically compensates for the TDS levels of incoming water.
Introduction date: October 2008
Specs:

  • Service flow rate: 3 gpm.

Supplier statement: Cirqua says the AB Formulator is a one-of-a-kind piece of equipment that remineralizes water with low mineral content or RO water. A digital display tells you the exact total dissolved solids of your ingredient water, and you can dial in the required level of TDS simply and easily. The unit is designed for accuracy and functionality. Now anywhere in the world you can duplicate the specific water needed with the punch of a couple of buttons, says Cirqua. Baristas and culinary experts can now control the variables of water to accommodate anything from the perfect cup of coffee to consistent pizza dough.

CUNO
System: TFS450 reverse osmosis water filtration system
Overview: The design of the TFS450 system allows filtered water to be blended with RO water and includes a lockable metering valve to adjust total dissolved solids.
Introduction date: September 2008
Specs:

  • Daily production: 300 gals./day with no blending, 600 gals./day with blending.
  • Conversion of inlet water to product-ready water is 50% higher when blending is used, says Cuno.
  • Pumping module capacity: 1.67 gpm at 80 psi.
  • TDS reduction: approximately 90%.

Supplier statement: Cuno says the TFS450 reverse osmosis system provides consistent, recipe-quality water to help meet the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s water standards. This is accomplished with an integral precision blending valve that allows the brew water to be fine tuned for just the right amount of minerals. The TFS450 is ecologically friendly, says Cuno, saving thousands of gallons of water per year compared to traditional RO systems. The system is driven by the incoming water pressure and does not require electricity to operate. Its twin, high-production RO modules ensure that your restaurant will never run out of water, even during peak demand periods.

EVERPURE
System: MRS-Envi-RO 600 reverse osmosis water purification system
Overview: The MRS-Envi-RO 600 removes the amount of dissolved solids from incoming tap water to achieve desired water quality. With an average recovery of 78%, the system disposes approximately less than a cup of water for each cup of coffee brewed, says Everpure.
Introduction date: December 2008
Specs:

  • Provides up to 0.7 gpm water production.
  • Capacity: 600 gals./day.
  • Service flow rate: dependent on water pressure in storage tank and line sizes to equipment.

Supplier statement: MRS-Envi-RO 600 High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis System is designed to reduce water waste and consume less energy while providing the highest quality, premium water available, leading to reduced costs and increased efficiency. The system features dual outputs that can provide two qualities of water: pure reverse osmosis water and blended RO, filtered water. Conventional reverse osmosis systems tend to be 20% efficient in producing water, while Everpure says the MRS-Envi-RO 600 provides as high as 80% efficiency, which helps you avoid sending thousands of gallons of waste water down the drain every year.

KINETICO
System: CC Series of water softeners
Overview: Designed for use with warewashing equipment, the CC Series water softener removes water hardness to less than 1 ppm on a continuous basis.
Introduction date: January 2008
Specs:

  • Inlet water pressure range: 15 psi -125 psi.
  • Water temp range: 35°F-160°F.
  • Operating flow range: .15 gpm – 16.4 gpm.

Supplier statement: Kinetico has introduced a line of water softeners designed specifically for the unique challenges hard water poses to warewasher performance and service reliability. The CC Series of compact water softeners is engineered to be installed prior to a booster heater, and units are compact enough to install under a dish table. These point-of-use systems incorporate Kinetico’s fully non-electric operation, alternating twin media tanks and metered demand regeneration. Providing a continuous supply of soft water is critical to eliminating scale formation and enhancing the appearance of glass and
flatware.

OPTIPURE
ystem: QT-2+ water treatment system
Overview: The QT-2+ is a three-cartridge system with three 15 Qwik-Twist cartridges and a 5-micron PolyTrix Qwik-Twist prefilter.
Introduction date: February 2009
Specs:

  • Chlorine, taste and odor reduction capacity: 45,000 gals.
  • Sediment reduction: 0.5 micron.
  • Service flow rate: 4.5 gpm.

Supplier statement: OptiPure’s combination systems combine two or more systems together to provide different water treatment technologies required for different types of equipment. The units are designed to provide a cost-effective balance of technologies without you needing to change different filters at different times to accommodate specific equipment needs. At The NAFEM Show, OptiPure introduced its new line of QT Qwik-Twist combination filtration systems, which provide a unique modular approach and give you the flexibility to select the perfect balance of treatment technologies for any combination of equipment.

PUREOFLOW
System: PureOFlow reverse osmosis water purification system
Overview: PureOFlow technology uses membrane technology developed under a licensing agreement with GE. The technology delivers both purification and desalination—soft water—in one unit. It’s a high-capacity system that PureOFlow says can replace most point-of-use filters and purifiers with just one unit.
Introduction date: February 2009
Specs:

  • System reduces up to 98% of substances such as arsenic, lead and radium, says PureOFlow.
  • System delivers as much as 5,600 gals./day.
  • System delivers a 1:1 purification-to-waste water ratio and water softening without the use of salts.
  • Waste water can be rerouted for a zero-waste water solution.

Supplier statement: PureOFlow’s water purification system reduces the need for ongoing equipment descaling and allows for longer maintenance intervals. The high-capacity point-of-entry part of the system is a contained unit that tucks away in a plumbing- or service room alongside your water heater, and PureOFlow says it features enough capacity to purify water throughout an entire business. Meanwhile the point-of-use part of the system is designed to take the place of wall-mounted filtration systems for high-volume applications like ice machines. For softening the system requires approximately the same amount of space or less than traditional soft-water systems and functions without salt or chemicals.

SELECTO
System: SMF water filtration system with hollow carbon technology
Overview: The high-volume SMF System is designed to reduce chlorine, chloramine, sediment, trihalomethanes, organic compounds and tannins using just one filter and no prefilter.
Introduction date: Summer 2007
Specs:

  • Rate capacity for chlorine: up to 300,000 gals.
  • Flow rates: 2.5 gpm to 15 gpm.
  • Sediment reduction: 0 micron to 80 microns.

Supplier statement: Selecto’s SMF Series is a merging of hollow carbon technology and modular construction that can quickly be customized for any size outlet and application. Selecto says the technology provides high-capacity chlorine and chloramine removal. The SMF System also provides high flow rates with nearly zero pressure drop and 3.4 water carbonation, says Selecto, and it removes more than 99% of water contaminants. The modular design of the SMF Series is adaptable to accommodate changing water conditions and is simple to install and service. Selecto says the SMF cartridge lasts about 10 times longer than traditional carbon filters so they only need replacing once a year.
