The National Restaurant Association re-introduced an expanded Zero Waste Zones program in Atlanta on Oct. 23. The program, acquired by the NRA last year, is aimed at helping the city’s restaurateurs, foodservice businesses and retailers become more sustainable and energy-efficient.
The program originally was created in 2009 by Atlanta-based Elemental Impact to help restaurateurs create a plan toward achieving sustainability in either energy efficiency, water conservation or waste reduction.
The revamped Zero Waste Zones program follows the rules of the NRA’s Conserve Sustainability Education Program and partners with the Georgia Restaurant Association and M-Pass Waste Consulting Services to show business owners how to minimize waste, streamline savings and promote conservation efforts to their customers and other businesses. The Atlanta effort centers on four metro zones: Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown and Hartsfield Int’l. Airport.
