In Memoriam: MAFSI Leader Tony Mazur

Anthony Mazur, past president and founding father of Manufacturers’ Agents for the Food Service Industry, passed away Jan. 4. He was 97.

Mazur, of A.E. Mazur Associates, Philadelphia, was a tireless supporter of MAFSI since becoming a founding member in 1949. He was the association’s longest-standing member.

In a letter to MAFSI members, the association’s executive director, Alison Cody wrote: “Tony was nothing short of remarkable in every way—his humor, his wit, his leadership, his moral compass and his deep dedication to people and to the industry he loved. He has been aptly described as an idol—a proverbial rock star in this industry—and as one of the most influential leaders in the history of MAFSI. He would often say, ‘Your job is to make the world a better world for others,’ and he certainly did this for our organization.”

MAFSI’s top accolade, the Tony Award, is named in his honor and is bestowed upon an individual MAFSI agent member who has consistently performed and demonstrated sincere interest, effort, leadership and given time to the welfare and progress of MAFSI and the enhancement of the manufacturers’ agents’ function and position in the industry.

Mazur served as MAFSI president from 1970-’71 and was the first recipient of the Tony Award in ’73. He is the most honored member of the association, receiving the Pacesetter Award in ’98 and the Lifetime Membership Award in 2007.

Mazur was predeceased by his wife of more than 60 years, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Tony’s memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Valley Square, 512 Township Line Rd., Suite 133, Blue Bell, Pa., 19422.
