Dealers, Manufacturers, Service Agents Make A Difference Through Charitable Endeavors

Whether pitching in to aid the nation’s men and women in uniform or children and families in need, foodservice E&S companies are making an impact. Among the recent charitable outreach programs we’ve heard about lately:

Tony Rapanotti of A.R. Repairs Baker’s Kneads and Patrick Duffy of Duffy’s Food Equipment Service installed a commercial kitchen in Teupasenti, Honduras, to feed the children in one of the Western Hemisphere’s poorest regions. The job included an emergency purchase and installation of a generator and transformer to keep the refrigeration working. More funding is always needed for the Children’s Rescue Mission and can be sent to Rapanotti at A.R. Repairs, 26352 Lawrence Center Line, MI 48015. 800/852-2261.

Indianapolis-based C & T Design and Equipment Co. recently coordinated the donation of four CookTek induction cookers to Operation HOT Cause, bringing well-known chefs to Afghanistan to cook for and entertain troops. More information on the program is available from Libby Shoop at C&T Design and Equipment, 317/644-7801.

Kappus Co., an authorized, Cleveland-based Taylor Co. distributor since 1948, teamed with the manufacturer to donate $1,000 to Cleveland’s Ronald McDonald House. The donation was in honor of the burger chain’s Ohio region for its commitment to recruiting students for Taylor’s Turbo-Charge training classes.

Scotsman Industries has made a $20,000 donation to A Legacy For Learning Corp. on behalf of Scotsman Ice Systems and Ice-O-Matic ($10,000 was donated in each company’s name). ALFLC works with military veterans to provide scholarship-funded training for career placement in the foodservice equipment repair industry. Veterans accepted into the scholarship program are provided a variety of services including training courses, in-person interviews with one of nearly 1,000 partner organizations and access to a job database of service companies.

Elverson, Pa.-based Singer Equipment Co. recently accepted two awards from the United Way of Berks County, Pa. The Elverson, Pa., dealer received the Outstanding Employee Campaign Award, given to an organization that best exemplifies the spirit of the United Way and puts forth a top effort in organizing employee campaigns to educate co-workers and increase voluntary giving. Singer, which marked its 95th anniversary this year, received the award in the category of organizations with 101 to 499 employees. And after receiving the Silver Award for several years, Singer employees boosted their overall giving by more than 23% last year and earned the Gold Award for its 2012 Campaign. The award is presented to employee groups achieving a per capita donation of $175 to $249.99.
