Emerson’s InSinkErator Business Celebrates 75th Year

Disposer technology has diverted more than 77.3 billion lb. of food scraps from landfills to wastewater treatment plants, which transforms the waste into usable biogas. InSinkErator, an Emerson business and a manufacturer of food waste disposers and instant hot water dispensers for home and commercial use, celebrated its 75th anniversary by hosting an event at its headquarters in Racine, Wis., where the company produced its 150 millionth disposer. Today, InSinkErator disposers are playing an increasingly important environmental role in managing food waste, and are gaining popularity on a global scale. Looking ahead, the company is exploring ways to partner with commercial institutions that manage large quantities of food waste, such as sports arenas, grocery stores, hotels and academic institutions, in hopes of increasing the conversion of food waste through anaerobic digestion at wastewater facilities.
