AFC Renames Itself Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

After a banner year in which the company celebrated its most new-unit openings—194—in 15 years, AFC Enterprises has officially changed its corporate name to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc.

“The Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen name has been used in our restaurants since 2008. This name is among the most visible expressions of our Louisiana heritage and differentiates Popeyes in the marketplace,” said CEO Cheryl Bachelder. “With this name change, we continue to leverage our brand identity and the strategy that has driven our industry-leading results.”

Popeyes has 2,225 outlets in the U.S., three territories and 28 foreign countries. More than 60% of domestic restaurants have been remodeled in the new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen image; 550 units were revamped last year.

In 2013, Popeyes’ 194 new restaurants included 124 domestic and 70 international stores; it opened 141 units in ’12. This year, the chain expects new-unit openings to range between 180-200 (including 10-15 new company-operated stores), with net unit openings of 100-130, for a system growth rate of approximately 5%. Capital expenditures are anticipated in the range of $30-$35 million.
