Sentinel Adds Newk’s Eatery To Its Chain Holdings

Sentinel Capital Partners, the private equity group which purchased Checker’s/Rally’s earlier this year, has closed on its acquisition of Newk’s Holding Co. LLC, the owner and operator of the Newk’s Eatery franchise. Terms of the purchase agreement were not disclosed.

The fast-casual chain, founded 10 years ago in Oxford, Miss., offers made-from-scratch sandwiches, soups, salads and pizzas. The Newk’s Eatery system consists of 67 restaurants in the southeastern U.S.; it’s helmed by CEO/co-founder Chris Newcomb.

Sentinel’s other foodservice chain acquisitions include Border Foods, a leading franchisee in the Taco Bell system; Falcon Holdings, the largest franchisee of Church’s Chicken restaurants; Huddle House; and Southern California Pizza Co., a 223-unit Pizza Hut franchisee operating in the greater Los Angeles market.
