Buffalo Wild Wings Heads To Canada

And some chains are still busy taking the plunge across our northern border. Buffalo Wild Wings has announced plans for more than 50 company-owned and franchised stores across Canada. The five-year expansion plan will kick off in the spring with two restaurants near Toronto. They will be the chain’s first stores outside the United States.

Buffalo Wild Wings was founded nearly 30 years ago as a college bar in Columbus, Ohio. Over the past 12 years the chain has grown from 35 stores to 680. Today it has nearly 700. In Canada, the company sees an eager customer base and an improving economic climate for its sports-themed ambience and menu.

"I think the economy is going to have a slow recovery, and I think sometimes when you go in when it’s slow, you really can take advantage of some of the growth opportunities that come along,” CEO Sally Smith said.
