PMG Acquires Marketsmart’s E&S Division

Come Jan. 1, Preferred Marketing Group will acquire the foodservice equipment and supplies division from Marketsmart Inc. and add Manitowoc Foodservice to the lines it represents.

“We have been working on this acquisition for a long time. PMG is ideally positioned to unify its marketing and sales package by adding the Manitowoc lines to our highly successful Northern California and Nevada organization,” stated Jeff Couch, PMG’s owner.

As a part of the acquisition, the veteran Marketsmart sales team will join PMG. V.P. Jim Macchi will take on the title of v.p.-business development at PMG; territory managers Steve Reger and Tim Nasty will join PMG field sales representative Tom Tallon to provide deeper coverage of the territory. PMG has six field sales representatives in Southern California supported by a four-person customer-service and quotation staff in its Chatsworth, Calif., headquarters; the facility also houses a 4,000-sq.-ft. education center/culinary lab. PMG will utilize the Marketsmart culinary facility and share other resources to ensure a smooth transition.

Marketsmart is a branch of The Core Group, which has 11 divisions serving the foodservice industry. “The divestiture of the equipment division helps streamline Marketsmart to concentrate on our core businesses: food, nonfoods and janitorial supplies,” said Dan Mulholland, senior v.p. of the Chino, Calif., company.
