Taiwanese Bubble Tea And BBQ Chains Plan U.S., European Expansion

Three Taiwanese chains are branching out.

OCOCO Int’l. Co. Ltd., which operates more than 1,800 Coco Fresh Tea & Juice outlets worldwide, will make its debut in the U.K. in the first quarter next year. The store will mark the bubble-tea chain’s first step into the European market; the company already has operations in Asia, North America and Africa. Additionally, OCOCO Int’l. will launch a French bakery concept in Taiwan within the next two years.

La Kaffa Int’l. Co Ltd., which operates the 800-unit Chatime bubble-tea chain in Taiwan, China, Southeast Asia, Australia and the U.S., is bringing a foreign brand to Taiwan’s shores. The company, which currently operates two brands, ZenQ for iced desserts and drinks and La Kaffa for coffee and light meals, is teaming up with Japan’s ATOM Co. to operate the Japanese pork-chop restaurant chain Wagokoro Tonkatsu Anzu in Taiwan.

Another restaurant chain, Wowprime Corp., has announced plans to launch its first American outlet. The company has teamed up with U.S.-based Panda Restaurant Group to open its barbecue restaurant brand Yakiyan in the first quarter of next year. In addition to its 24 Yakiyan outlets in Taiwan, Wowprime has 12 other brands and more than 300 outlets in Taiwan, China and South Asia.
