Thai Chain Plans 500 QSRs Down Under

Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Foods is planning to roll out up to 500 quick-service Thai restaurants in Australia. The foodservice division of Thailand’s largest agribusiness company also plans to expand into the ready-to-eat meals segment during the next five years, with 300-500 stores offering a modern Thai quick-serve menu.

The concept, 1000Wat, recently debuted in Melbourne; the restaurant is the company’s first in Australia. More are expected to debut in the next few months.

Bangkok-based Charoen Pokphand operates six foodservice brands: 4,752 Five Star kiosks, 176 Chester’s quick-serve outlets, seven CP Kitchen quick-serve restaurants, 623 CP Fresh Mart retail stores, four CP Fresh Mart Plus “super” convenience stores and one CP Food World food court.
