Freight Rate Update: No Change For Air Curtains, Warewasher Debate Continues
We’ve been keeping you updated on proposals to change shipping rates for warewashers and air curtains and doors. Both kinds of equipment have been targeted for shipping classification upgrades by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association’s Commodity Classification Standards Board.
At the board’s Jan. 27 meeting, the CCSB voted to withdraw its rate proposal for air curtains—which would have lowered shipping costs—and continue research. The current provisions will continue to apply. For information, contact Daniel Horning, 703/838-1820, horning@nmfta.org.
Warewashers, which could see shipping costs soar, remain a hot topic. No decision was made, and the rate proposal discussion was deferred to the CCSB meeting on June 1; until then, current provisions will continue to apply. While a few warewasher companies formed strong opposition to the changes, more manufacturers and dealers are needed to communicate their thoughts to CCSB. For details, or to contribute additional information, contact Shannon Allard, 703/838-1809, allard@nmfta.org.
The entire Disposition Bulletin for the Jan. 27 CCSB meeting is available at nmfta.org/Dockets/Docket%202015-1/2015_1_Disposition.pdf. Air Curtains/Air Doors are presented on pg. 7. Dishwashers/Warewashers are covered on pg. 6.
