Hobart Awards Fourth Annual Sustainability Grant

The Hobart Center for Foodservice Sustainability has awarded a $5,000 grant to Georgia Tech Dining Service (Sodexho) for its comprehensive energy- and water-savings initiatives, intensive composting and recycling, and use of more local and organic produce.

“The quality of entries in terms of innovation and best practices in sustainability was extremely impressive,” said Rick Cartwright, v.p. of ITW Food Equipment Group and HCFS fellow. “The entry from Georgia Tech stood out due to the comprehensive, coordinated nature of its sustainability programs that provide significant environmental impact and cost savings while remaining cost-neutral.”

Georgia Tech was selected for the HCFS grant from among a broad spectrum of restaurants, institutions and schools. By 2015, its sustainability program is expected to have reduced energy use by 26%, while greatly minimizing net waste.
