Relatively Mild Winter Helping Restaurant Sales

If you live in the Northeast, it may not seem like this winter is milder than last year’s. But it is for much of the country and that is helping restaurant sales trend higher, according to Black Box Intelligence, as reported in Nation’s Restaurant News. According to the research group’s Restaurant Industry Snapshot, which tracks weekly sales from more than 20,000 restaurants accounting for more than $45 billion in annual sales, comparable same-store sales vs. the year prior jumped 6.1% in January, while traffic rose 2.4%. On a rolling average for the past three months, same-store sales are up 3.5% and traffic half a point. Same store-sales rose 3% in January from December 2014.
