Borneo Oil Plans 15 Pezzo Pizza Outlets In Sabah, Sarawak

The two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo will have more pizza options by the end of the year. Borneo Oil Bhd, the master licensee for the takeaway pizza chain Pezzo in Sabah and Sarawak, expects to open at least 15 Pezzo kiosks in Sabah and Sarawak by December. The Singapore-based chain has more than two dozen outlets in its home country and one already open in Sabah.

Nine Pezzo franchisees, about half of them also franchisees of Borneo Oil’s 75-unit QSR chain, SugarBun, are signing up to open stores. The first of the Pezzo kiosks targeted for major shopping malls in Sarawak is to open in May. Pezzo sells 14 varities of pizza, by the slice or in pies up to 14 in.

Pezzo pizza complements the home-grown SugarBun concept, which opened 16 units over the past 12 months. There are currently 65 SugarBun outlets in Malaysia, most of them in major and secondary Sarawak towns, and 10 in Brunei, Australia, China and Bangladesh. SugarBun offers Western meals, such as broasted chicken, and a wide range of Asian cuisines, including claypot and curry and savory rice dishes.
