Just a month after we reported on a Utah town setting aside a years-long ban on chain restaurants, the vox populi—and a desire for Shake Shack—has won the day in West Hollywood, Calif.
A proposal by two members of the City Council would have limited the number and type of chain restaurants and stores operating within the borders of the city of 35,000. When word got out about the proposal, there was an outpouring of negative reaction, from the Chamber of Commerce, local franchise owners, real-estate developers and people on the street. The proposal also, depending on the wording, could have jeopardized one of the city’s biggest pending business developments—Shake Shack.
The proposed legislation was pulled before it even received a vote.
