Antunes, the family-owned and -operated maker of countertop cooking and water-filtration equipment, recently celebrated the expansion of its Carol Stream, Ill., headquarters. The project, which broke ground in October 2016, adds approximately 55,000 sq.ft. to the campus and increases manufacturing capacity by 40% with eight new full assembly lines, each able to run four different models within a product category like toasters or steamers. A new 20,000 sq.ft. fabrication area features innovative equipment for greater flexibility and efficiency.

Through the expansion, the company also established a dedicated space for its maintenance apprenticeship program. This program includes 100 hours of foundational coursework and 400 hours of specialized maintenance training, such as OSHA safety training, blueprint reading, precision measurement and asset management.

Employee amenities also expanded with new or enhanced facilities designed to promote wellness, continuing education and collaboration. These additions include a new 5,000-sq.ft. wellness center, a revamped learning center offering Antunes team members access to training programs; an on-site health center; an expanded cafeteria; and a redesigned open office floorplan, including 13,500 sq.ft. of new space.

“We are extremely pleased with the advancements we’ve made to our corporate headquarters and what they represent for the future of Antunes,” says CEO Glenn Bullock. “This expansion demonstrates our commitment to investing in the resources needed to continually improve our company, as well as the well-being of our team members.”

Antunes has occupied six different locations since it was established in the Chicago area in 1955. In 1998, the leadership team decided to bring all manufacturing processes and office space into one building and broke ground on the Carol Stream headquarters, which now totals 170,000 sq.ft..

“My father would be so amazed and proud of the many improvements that we have made for our team members,” says Jane Antunes Bullock. “He always thought of each team member as one of the family, and he would love that we continue this tradition today.”
