Four Manufacturers Score ENERGY STAR Awards

School districts, universities, power companies, Fortune 500 corporations, and four foodservice equipment and supplies manufacturers are among the nearly 200 winners 2019 ENERGY STAR awards.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded its ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards to three firms for their focus on energy savings and efficiency in the manufacturing of food equipment:

  • Hoshizaki America: The company demonstrated impressive dedication to product innovation and sustainability, redesigning its refrigeration product lines to increase energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 42%.
  • ITW FEG (including Hobart, Baxter, Traulsen, Vulcan, Wolf, Stero and Wittco): Innovations included implementing high-efficiency compressor technology and a new proprietary digital controller in its refrigeration equipment, resulting in end-users realizing improved cabinet performance and energy savings; and expanding its “Obsolete” program, targeting older Hobart units for upgrade to new ENERGY STAR certified equipment.
  • Welbilt: Increasing its ENERGY STAR product portfolio by 15% across its Cleveland, Convotherm, Delfield, Frymaster, Garland, Koolaire, Manitowoc brands (Delfield, had 61 new ENERGY STAR certified models); and increasing sales of ENERGY STAR certified combination ovens by 23%, specifically targeting K-12 customers with incentive packages, training, demonstrations and a culinary cookbook.

True Mfg. received ENERGY STAR’s Excellence in Product Design Award. According to EPA, it stood out for its use of alternative refrigerants as well as its marketing of ENERGY STAR certified products through trade shows, product labeling, and specification sheet labeling
