High-speed oven maker Merrychef has begun to extend its existing U.K. manufacturing facility in Sheffield, with work expected to wrap up by December.

The project commenced in mid-March, and building began in May. The expansion will add 42,700 square feet to enable greater manufacturing capacity and double Merrychef’s warehousing space to meet demand in the U.K. and international markets.

“The last few years has seen incredible growth for Merrychef, in part due to the launch of our innovative conneX range of high-speed ovens,” says Colin Lacey, Merrychef managing director. “ … Sheffield is the home of Merrychef and our main manufacturing center; the site expansion will eventually create up to 80 new positions, and we are delighted to be able to further support the local Sheffield economy.”

Merrychef says it also will continue to incorporate state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies for improvements in inventory management and supply chain efficiency.

The building crew also has sustainable goals in mind, as Merrychef will look to reduce environmental impact by using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient building techniques. “The facility will incorporate renewable energy sources from solar to water-harvesting technologies, together with improved insulation to reduce energy consumption, carbon emissions and noise pollution,” says the release.
