Firehouse Subs will make its debut in the Asia-Pacific region this year, starting with Southeast Queensland.

Just over a month after announcing it would open over 500 units in Brazil, Firehouse Subs is on its next voyage—this time to Australia.

Over the next 10 years, the brand plans to open 165 restaurants in Australia, working with the multibrand franchisee Retail Food Group (owner of Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Donut King, Brumby’s Bakery, Beefy’s Pies and Crust Gourmet Pizza).

The first unit will open later this year in Southeast Queensland. Longer term, RFG CEO Matt Marshall says they expect to open 15 company-owned restaurants in the next three years before launching franchising opportunities in year four.

Marshall says the brand represents a “tremendous addition” for RFG, in part because of a “growing A$1.7bn.sandwich market.”

The expansion is expected to support thousands of careers over the next decade, including roles in construction, supply chain and distribution, head office support, and restaurant employees and management.

Today, Firehouse Subs has over 1,300 restaurants across the U.S., Canada, Switzerland, Mexico, Albania and the United Arab Emirates.
