Claim Jumper, Bubba Gump Now Under Landry’s Umbrella

Landry’s Restaurants has completed two major acquisitions since CEO Tilman J. Fertitta took the company private in October. After approval from a bankruptcy court, the Houston company acquired Claim Jumper Restaurants for an undisclosed amount after Claim Jumper filed for Chapter 11 earlier this year. The Irvine, Calif., chain, founded in 1977, has units in Arizona, California, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. Two of its 45 units—one in Colorado and one in Illinois—will be shut down and are not included in the sale.

Following on the heels of that news, Landry’s purchased a second California casual-dining chain, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. The Monterey-based chain has 32 stores, mostly in tourist-friendly locations. Twenty-six units are in the U.S; six of its nine overseas outlets are franchised. Landry’s owns and operates more than 200 casual-dining restaurants, including Rainforest Cafe, Landry’s Seafood House, Charley’s Crab, The Chart House, and Saltgrass Steak House.
