Food Safety Consciousness Brings Out Record Attendance For Summit

If turnout was any indication of the topicality of food safety, then the 18th Annual Food Safety Summit was a roaring success. The May 9-11 summit, held for the first time in Rosemont, Ill., attracted nearly 1,700 registered food safety professionals, a 12% increase in registered attendees from 2015, and more than 200 exhibiting companies, a 20% increase from last year.  During the three-day event, food safety professionals discussed pressing issues facing the food and foodservice industries, including listeria; the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act; and the integration of the nation's food safety system. The event also included half a dozen certification programs and workshops.  

Presentations on the food safety environment were made by senior executives from the FDA, and companies including McDonald's and Wegman's. The Summit closed with a “hot topic” session  providing attendees an opportunity to discuss some of the most pressing legal issues facing the industry.

Next year’s Summit is set for the same dates, same location.
