Calico Industries Sold

Calico Industries, the 94-year-old Annapolis Junction, Md., foodservice equipment and janitorial supplies distributor, has been acquired by a Mississippi investment firm. The privately owned dealer hired Equity Partners HG last November to facilitate its sale. Earlier this month, a deal was reached with Flowood, Miss.-based Mill Street Ventures for a full takeover. Mill Street's parent company, Jamas Capital Management, owns a similar business to Calico Industries in Mississippi. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1923, Calico does about $25 million in annual revenue, selling to a broad customer base including restaurants, amusement parks, municipalities, school systems, general contractors, prisons, health care facilities, and hospitality businesses. Calico, which facilitates kitchen consultation, layout and design services, as well as custom fabrication and millwork, also is one of the nation's largest polybag liner distributors.

Dirk Weirsma will remain Calico's president and most of the company's 47 full-time employees will be retained. Calico also has a distribution facility in Florida.
