Jack in the Box is the latest restaurant chain getting a helping hand through robotics. The brand plans to test a pair of robots at the fry and drink stations to improve back-of-house operations as it says staffing challenges continue to impact operating hours and costs.

Through artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and data analytics, the drink-making robot can dispense and seal beverages, while the robot used at the fry station will be able to cook the brand’s fried menu items, like tacos and curly fries.

Jack in the Box says it will test the integration of both products to measure the benefits of a connected kitchen, with the goal of employees seeing an immediate improvement in their day-to-day responsibilities.

“We are confident that this technology will be a good fit to support our growing business needs with intentions of having a positive impact on our operations while promoting safety and comfort to our team members,” says Tony Darden, COO, in a press release.

The robots initially will be piloted at Jack in the Box standalone locations, with possible plans for further integration in the coming months.
