The Vollrath Co. announced plans Dec. 10 for a multimillion-dollar investment to modernize and expand its headquarters in Sheboygan, Wis. The project, with a first phase valued at around $40 million, will include construction of a 110,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at Vollrath’s corporate campus and represents one of the largest capital investments in its 150-year history.

In a release, Vollrath states the multiyear, phased development will streamline production flows, increase operational efficiency and incorporate modern production technologies. The new facility also will deepen the company’s metal-forming expertise.

“Our current facility, built in 1912, has served us well, but to remain competitive and continue growing, we need to invest in modern infrastructure that allows us to streamline how we work, stay at the cutting edge of manufacturing technology, and make it even easier for customers to do business with us.”

Vollrath will prioritize sustainability on the project by working to reclaim and recycle as much material as possible from the existing structures rather than sending them to the landfill. The same mindset will guide decisions about new equipment and building systems as the project moves forward.

Vollrath has eight factories spread across the U.S., Europe and China. It’s one of several manufacturers that have recently announced investments in U.S. manufacturing. Last week, Unox posted it has started production at its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Denver, N.C.
