Yum China’s Burger Concept Marks Milestone
Pizza Hut Burger, which launched late last year, is at least halfway to its goal of opening 500-600 Burger Bar locations by the end of 2026.
Today, Aug. 20, Yum China is celebrating the opening of the 300th Pizza Hut Burger Bar in China.
Pizza Hut China has rapidly scaled the new QSR module—which features the burger concept side-by-side with Pizza Hut stores—to the tune of more than one location per day on average. Yum says the model has particularly resonated with young consumers and solo diners.
“We entered the burger category two years ago with Pizza Dough Burgers, which have been well received by consumers,” says Jeff Kuai, general manager of Pizza Hut China. “We are now taking the business to the next level through Pizza Hut Burger Bar, while continuously refining the module to meet the diverse needs of our consumers.”
The concept shares resources with the parent store and helped contribute double-digit incremental sales and meaningful profit to their parent Pizza Hut stores in Q2, says the release.
Also Growing
Besides Pizza Hut Burger Bar, Pizza Hut also is accelerating its new store openings in China, following Yum China’s acquisition of the Pizza Hut brand ownership in Mainland China on Aug. 7. Pizza Hut is now targeting more than 800 net new openings in each of 2027 and 2028, up from the previous target of over 600.
