Broadening its category offerings, the EPA has posted the Final Version 1.0 Energy Star Commercial Electric Cooktops product specification, taking effect Aug. 31. Manufacturers can begin the certification process for their electric cooktops, which include induction cooktops.
Energy Star-certified commercial electric cooktops under the Version 1.0 specification will offer operators, on average, energy savings of approximately 10% per hob from standard electric units, the release states. This specification introduces a minimum cooking (boil) energy efficiency performance level of 80% for eligible commercial electric cooktops and a lifetime electricity savings of 1,800 kWh, lifetime energy savings of $200, and lifetime emissions reductions of 2,800 lb. of CO2.
Energy Star is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency. The program has worked with the foodservice equipment industry for 20 years.
