Shanghai’s Really BIG Show

Hotelex just gets bigger and bigger every year. Part of a larger exhibition, Hotelex + Design & Deco (dubbed HDD) had its 24th annual run March 30-April 2 covering 15 themed sectors from equipment and supplies to hotel design and engineering to food and beverages at the Shanghai New Int’l. Expo Centre. It attracted 96,508 professional visitors and exhibitors from more than 50 countries.

For the third consecutive year, Foodservice Equipment Reports and the Foodservice Consultants Society Int’l.-Asia Pacific Division, in cooperation with show organizer Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo, co-sponsored and ran an educational forum, “Foodservice In The 21st Century,” April 1 during the show. The program attracted more than 250 attendees to hear presentations simultaneously translated into English and Mandarin.

Among the program’s featured speakers was Bob O’Brien, Senior V.P.-Global Foodservice for The NPD Group. O’Brien detailed recent foodservice and consumer trends in China and other major foodservice markets around the world. FER Publisher Robin Ashton presented an overview of the magazine’s 2015 equipment and supplies market forecast.

Four FCSI members—Francois Tesnière, Founder and Director of 3bornes Architectes and FCG; Tony Wang, Founder and Director of Design for Beijing-based Jun Chao Kitchen Design and Consulting; and Anton Lee and Lenny Condenzio, Partners in Ricca Design Studios—discussed foodservice facilities’ design trends in China and sustainability issues in commercial kitchen design.

Sponsors of the forum were Alto-Shaam, Greenfield World Trade, Halton, Precor and T&S Brass and Bronze Works.

Hotelex is scheduled for March 29-April 1, 2016, again at the SNIEC. Information about next year’s show can be found at hotelex.cn.
