RBI Concept Ups International Growth Plans

Just two years after the Florida-based brand opened its first unit outside of North America, it's setting its sights on 500-plus units in South America.

Over the next decade, Firehouse Subs says it plans to open more than 500 restaurants across Brazil, adding bulk to its 1,300-unit portfolio.

The expansion is part of a joint venture supported by parent company Restaurant Brands Int’l, in partnership with Iuri Miranda, the former CEO and board member of Zamp S.A., a master franchisee of sister brands Burger King and Popeyes in Brazil. Longer term, RBI says it expects to partner with local investors to fuel continued growth.

“I believe Firehouse Subs has an exciting runway for growth, and we have set ambitious expansion plans around the world,” states Thiago Santelmo, president of international at RBI.

Firehouse Subs, which started in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1994, opened its first restaurant outside of North America in 2023. In 2024, it also opened units in UAE and Albania.

Firehouse Subs was acquired by RBI in late 2021, joining a 30,000-unit portfolio rounded out by Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes.
