With a strong footprint in Texas, the nearly 50-year-old brand aims to become a national chain.

Taco Cabana, a San Antonio-based fast-casual Mexican dining chain, plans to drive expansion this year with a prototype and a franchise model.

The TC 3.0 prototype “reimagines the Taco Cabana experience,” the company says in the release, “with a sleek design built for operational efficiency, adaptability and maximum profitability.” At 2,500 square feet, the prototype measures 1,000 square feet less than earlier designs. It incorporates modern features like a single makeline, single or double drive-thru options and a walk-up window for added guest convenience.

With a strong footprint in Texas, Taco Cabana looks to expand into new markets across the country including Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee. It currently has nearly 150 company-owned restaurants in Texas.
