Wienerschnitzel Opens First Military Base Restaurant

Wienerschnitzel opened its first restaurant on a U.S. military base earlier this month. The restaurant is located at Naval Base San Diego, San Diego, and is part of a contract with the Navy Exchange Service Command. The restaurant offers Wienerschnitzel’s full menu, from hot dogs to burgers, to service members, civilian employees and families.

The restaurant marks one example of a broader strategy at Wienerschnitzel to expand beyond traditional restaurant formats. Over the past year, the brand has expanded into Walmart Supercenters in Arizona, Washington, New Mexico and Colorado, with two more Walmart restaurants opening later this year.

“Opening our first restaurant on a military base is an exciting milestone for our brand and another example of how Wienerschnitzel can thrive beyond the traditional restaurant model,” says David Winter, chief development officer for Wienerschnitzel, in the release. “Whether it’s a Walmart, travel center or military installation, we’re finding new ways to meet consumers where they already are while creating additional growth opportunities for current and future franchise partners.”

Wienerschnitzel operates 340 restaurants across 13 states and has more than 30 more units in development nationwide. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers also recently opened its first U.S. military base location.
