Gordon Oates Sr., Patriarch Of Vulcan-Hart, Passes

Gordon Oates Sr., one of the founding fathers of the modern foodservice equipment industry and a 38-year veteran of Vulcan-Hart Corp., has died. He was 86.

Oates, a cofounder of the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers, spent his industry career dedicated to Vulcan-Hart. He joined the manufacturer in 1955 as sales manager and served as its president from ’78 until his retirement in ’88. During that time, the Louisville, Ky., company expanded to include five operating plants in the United States, two in Canada and one in England, with licensed manufacturers in four countries. Vulcan is now a division of ITW Food Equipment Group.

Oates is survived by his sons, Gordon Jr. and Robert, and five grandchildren.
