In Memoriam: Mitch Schechter

Mitchell Schechter, president, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Schechter Report and Newz-Zoom newsletter, died of heart failure on June 20. He was 60 years old.

Schechter spent the past 29 years covering the foodservice industry. He started as an associate editor with Food Management in 1983, and moved on to found PROSERVICE, a firm supplying design, editorial and other content-related services to foodservice clients. From ’98 to 2004, he was editor in chief of Foodservice Equipment & Supplies Magazine. In ‘07, he joined forces with Bill Pagano to form Axis M Inc., a foodservice equipment marketing firm. His books include "Foodservice Management: An Administrator’s Guide" and "The Complete Guide To Operating Foodservices In Cultural Institutions."

Survivors include his parents, brother and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Feeding America (formerly Second Harvest) at www.feedingamerica.org.

Services were held June 24 in New York. “””
