Cue The Toasters: Quiznos Plans 150 Stores In Mexico

Quiznos has announced an aggressive expansion into Mexico. The toasted sandwich chain will compete with Subway, which already has about 600 stores there.

On Jan. 28, the Denver-based chain said it had signed a master franchise agreement with Mexico City-based Quizmex SA DE CV, which plans to open and subfranchise about 150 restaurants over the next decade. Five stores are scheduled to open in Mexico City this year.

The agreement is the latest in a series of recent global development deals for Quiznos. It recently expanded into Brazil, India and the Philippines. The chain will open its first Russian location in March.

The chain, which appointed Kenneth Cutshaw as president of international last September, hopes to open more than 1,000 international locations in more than 40 countries by 2020. Quiznos currently has about 680 international locations among its 2,800 unit count.
