Top 100 U.S. E&S Manufacturers Grew 7% In 2013

The 100 largest foodservice equipment and supplies manufacturers saw revenues rose 7% last year, the strongest gain since the Great Recession, according to exclusive estimates from Foodservice Equipment Reports. The findings were released during the magazine’s annual President’s Preview E&S Market Forecast meeting, held July 29 at the Westin O’Hare, Rosemont, Ill.

The 7% increase in 2013 was the largest since the first year of the ranking in 2007 when the Top 100 E&S Manufacturers experienced an 8.7% gain. Sales for the Top 100 rose 5.7% in 2012 and 6.4% in 2011. Top 100 sales fell 9.6% at the depth of the recession in 2009.

Some of the strength of the increase is attributable to acquisitions, FER Publisher Robin Ashton told forecast meeting attendees, especially Ali Group North America’s acquisition of Scotsman Industries in late 2012. Sales for Ali Group North America are now estimated at $660 million in 2013, up from $409 million in 2012. Middleby Corp. also benefited from acquisitions.

Among the quartiles, the Top 25 manufacturers posted a 7.4% gain, and the second 25 saw sales rise 7.1%. Revenues for the third quartile rose 4% while those of the final 25 were up 5.4%.

The complete Top 100 E&S Manufacturers presentation is available as part of FER’s annual E&S Market Forecast package. Price for the eight PowerPoint presentation package is $1,295. For information, e-mail Robin Ashton rashton@fermag.com or Christine Palmer  cpalmer@fermag.com
