Japanese Operator Launches First Sukiya Unit In Taiwan

Zensho Holdings Co., Japan’s largest operator of restaurant chains, took a major step toward international expansion this month when it opened its first Sukiya restaurant in Taiwan.

The 70-unit quick-service chain, which specializes in curry and donburi (beef bowls), officially debuted July 10 in Taipei; the store is open for business 24 hours a day. The company has readied for further expansion by setting up a central kitchen in western New Taipei’s Wugu District.

Zensho Taiwan Co., the company’s local branch, says it has a 10-year target of opening 100 units in Taiwan. China News Agency reports that Zensho will open 20 Sukiya restaurants in the greater Taipei area in the next two to three years in the run-up to the 100-unit target.

Zensho also has restaurants in China, Malaysia, Thailand and Brazil.
