KFC: 14,000+, Super Chix: 2

While cautioning that it remains an “exploratory concept,” Yum! Brands will open its second Super Chix restaurant in Dallas later this month. The new outlet comes a year after the concept debuted in Arlington, Texas, with a simple menu of chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, hand-cut fries, salads and frozen custards. Super Chix’ modern, fast-casual design is not ready for prime time, though; Yum! is testing it slowly, as it has with KFC eleven, a fast-casual spin on its top chicken chain, which it opened near its Louisville, Ky., headquarters two years ago, and its upscale U.S. Taco Co., featuring items such as $10 lobster tacos, which it opened in California last year.
