Newk’s Ushers In “Generation Two” Look

Newk’s Eatery, the 85-unit fast-casual chain, is testing a new design prototype to underscore its upscale culinary ambitions with a fresh, trendy look. The “Generation Two” design builds on Newk’s signature components, including open-view kitchens and condiment tables, with new colors and upgraded finishes using materials such as subway tile, pendant lighting, floor detail, and plush upholstery. Changes to the floor plan are expected to expedite ordering and takeout.

The prototype aligns with Newk’s plans to double in size in the next three years; it currently has a footprint in 13 states. A similar floor plan and kitchen design also allow the new elements to be incorporated efficiently into existing units.

The Jackson, Miss., chain has opened prototypes in Lafayette, La., and Cary, N.C. Feedback from diners and operators will help determine the final design and systemwide rollout.
