Itsu Fattens Wallet For Overseas Expansion

Itsu, the London-based sushi shop concept launched by Pret a Manger co-founder Julian Metcalfe in 1997, is looking to expand internationally over the next three years. It recently received the funding from HSBC of £40 million ($US61 million) to do so.

“Itsu is a dynamic fast-food retailer with high growth prospects, a respected brand and ambitious goals,” said Amanda Murphy, HSBC’s UK Head of Corporate Banking.

Itsu has not declared which countries it is planning for expansion. The chain opened more than a dozen locations in 2015, taking its footprint to more than 60 shops and two dine-in restaurants in Britain.
